As many of you know the McAninch Arts Center is closing this
month for a major 18-month renovation that, when complete, will once again set
the bar for community college arts education, performance and exhibition space.
In the interim we continue to present and produce arts events on campus and
throughout our community. In the coming months we will be creating a plan for
our return to a renovated performing arts center. I will be using this blog to
engage in a discourse about arts and culture, the role of a community college
in supporting a cultural mission, and the challenges we face. I invite friends,
colleagues and contrarians to engage with me and share your thoughts.

So glad you are doing this! I've been so impressed with the role COD has played in building arts experiences in and with the community. It's hard for me to imagine the MAC being closed for 18 months, and it sort of feels like my arts home is closing for a long while. But being a long-time participant in the school's amazing dance department, I know the college's arts programs will continue, even if not at the MAC right now. To me, that is wonderful news, not just for students but all whose lives their works touch, inspire, and cause to create and look at life through other cultures' eyes. Great to have a forum to discuss this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dancing Deb. Happy to say the Dance program is going strong even without a theatre. Great end of semester dance performance in Lemont last week. Pictures of the renovation progress have recently been posted to the blog. Let us know what you think and what you're favorite events at the MAC have been.
